In 2023, Toronto’s iconic Fairmont Royal York achieved a groundbreaking milestone by completing the largest heritage hotel retrofit in North America and earning the prestigious Zero Carbon Building – Performance certification. This transformative project, which spanned nearly five years of meticulous planning and execution, has put the historic hotel at the forefront of sustainability within the hospitality industry.

We were proud to collaborate with KingSett Capital, owners of the Fairmont Royal York, to help share this remarkable story with the world. From the early stages of the project to the achievement of certification and beyond, TRIA worked alongside KingSett to communicate the various milestone of this ambitious journey.

Our partnership with KingSett included supporting their social media strategy throughout the project’s complex decarbonization process and culminated in the organizing of the celebratory event to commemorate this landmark achievement. Our involvement included developing signage, invitations as well as delivering a carbon-zero event, offsetting the event’s carbon footprint of food, waste and travel through Carbonzero Canada. We also coordinated seamlessly with vendors to ensure the timely and smooth execution of all event components.
